Overall this textbook is easy to understand and to the point which is great considering medical terminology is an entry level course and most people taking this class are new to the material entirely. The text requires almost no prior knowledge of human anatomy or anything outside of very basic human biology (ie. organ system function, understanding that the body is made up of cells etc.)Additionally, the real world applications are a great touch and the text asks you to interpret medical terminology within a mock discharge summary and explain it in lay-man's terms. This is a great incorporation of active learning.I think I was most disappointed with the Chapter Review sections. Some of the questions asked in the chapter review contain questions about phrases, abbreviations or terms that were not covered in the chapter being reviewed (or any previous chapters for that matter), so one would be unable to give the appropriate answer without utilizing google or a medical dictionary. This was quite frustrating as it was consistent throughout chapter reviews. If it wasn't for the "fluff" of random medical diagnoses within chapters that really have nothing to do with the terminology being taught and the terrible chapter review sections that have you scrambling to decode words on google , this would be a fantastic book.

I found this book to be very helpful and easy to understand; the tests and "practice as you go" sections make it easy to test your skills in both remembering medical terms, common abbreviations, and forming terms yourself. My only complaint is that it's missing a well known and serious mental illness in the corresponding section: borderline personality disorder. I understand that they can't possibly cover all ailments, but it's common enough that I feel it should be included. I'm not sure if they're missing any others, but that was one I was surprised not to see. Otherwise, it's a good book and it was a great resource to prepare me for work as a patient care technician.

Years ago I read a medical terminology book that was fabulous and very easy to understand. But, unfortunately, I lost the book during one of my many moves and I cannot remember the title. So, I ordered this book for my daughter to use in her high school medical terminology course. It looked good from the description and the reviews were positive. Unfortunately my perception of the book was not as favorable. I was not impressed. This book was poorly written and confusing. It did not break down the words as clearly and carefully as other Medical Terminology books. There was not a sequential flow nor were there adequate illustrations that reinforced the material.

I didn't buy this book brand new, but it seems like it is brand new! The book is very basic and easy to use for my class, but if you are looking for a more in-depth insight of the medical field I suggest a different textbook.

Helped me a ton. Well organized, and the exercises in each chapter really help learn the material. The exercises are slightly repetitive, which is key for solidifying long-term memory.I would recommend this book for any healthcare worker.

It's so nice reading a technical manual that does NOT have grammar and spelling mistakes in it. This book is good for learning medical terminology. I'm in a class where this is the textbook, and it teaches a lot and is easy to follow and learn from.

This book is great to get an introduction to medical school! it touches a little bit on every single subject you'd cover medical school, I kind of wish I studied this book before anything else

I ordered the 5th edition but didn't realize until later on that I received the "custom edition." In the table of contents, it says that there is "Chapter Review Answers" supposedly between the "Appendices" and "Glossary." However, the book that I received doesn't have "Chapter Review Answers." Nonetheless, it's a very good book.
